The diploma project researched the possibility of building a music academy in the village of Mihăileni (The International Music Academy „George Enescu”). Mihăileni is a fairly new settlement as it dates from the 18th century. In the 18th century Mihăileni was a market town at the border between Moldavia and Galicia. The first settlers of the market town were Jewish merchants from Galicia. The settlement flourished until WW2, for a short period it was even the capital of the Dorohoi county. During the bombardments from WW2 most of the buildings were destroyed, the market town became a village. Among the old houses that survived the bombardments there is Enescu’s house. The house beloged to the mother of the composer George Enescu. The house is the only monument in the village. In the area surrounding the monument we can find most of the old houses that have survived the bombardments from WW2. A music academy can revitalize the village through events scheduled all over the year. The area of intervention is formed of 4 plots (the plot in front of the catholic church, the Luchian plot, the Enescu plot and the plot with the ruins of Moruzi’s house). There are two phases of the intervention. In the first phase the houses Enescu and Luchian are restored. Enescu’s house becomes a museum and the Luchian house is used as a music shool for the children from the area and for masterclasses for young musicians. On the Luchian plot two new buildings are proposed, one contains a kitchen and dinning space and the other one accomodation for ten students. On the plot in front of the church an alley and some shaded areas are propose. The Moruzi plot and the plot in front of the church are used for agriculture and public events. In the second phase, two halls are built on the Moruzi plot: a mutifunctional hall and a small concert hall for classical music. The entrance in the lobby is made trough the remaining basement of Moruzi’s house.
