A pályamű leírása:
Placed in an early 19th-century old building, part of the historic center of the city, the place hosts a small bar, a popular meeting point for the alternative scene. In its ten years of existence, it gathered a lot of artworks and memories on its walls and in the air, but the owners wanted a fresh start for the new ten years.
The intervention was going to be radical, so we decided, trying to keep its community spirit, to leave the list open for anyone who wants to get involved in the process. It was an interesting experience, with bartenders and clients working along with the construction crew from start to the end.
With access to the inner courtyard, the space had the opportunity to extend to it, so we moved and placed the bar so a better relation was created with the exterior, articulating the two spaces both physically: a circular enter-exit path, and psychologically: the bar can be seen from outside through the nice old window.
The old and new had to be in contrast for the first one to stand, so the intervention was clear and simple, in modern lines. The walls were left white like a start of a painting. The vault ceilings were scraped until the first plaster, which has preserved traces of the original paintwork, and then mirrored in the new polished concrete floor.
Metal, glass and wood furniture creates two focus areas: the bar and the multi-purpose wooden steps.
To be more versatile, the rest of the space remains free of fixed objects.
