This project addresses the possibility of reusing the Gigurtu Mansion, a 200 years old construction, through rehabilitation, conversion, and extension. The location near a valuable natural setting by the Ciorogirla river, the presence of the extra urban 19th-century noble residences characteristics, and the classical architecture highlights the value of the construction and leads to classifying it as a historical local monument. The intervention is based on the involvement of the public, on highlighting the value of the natural landscape, on the revival of the local customs and the insertion of the functions that have a connection with the history of the mansion. The proposal tries to rehabilitate and convert the construction into a space for carpentry research through workshops, involving thus both the old locals that have experience in this field and also the youth, for learning. The space can also act as a place for dances, festivals, conferences and presentations. The proposed functions are related with the history of the mansion: From noble residence to accommodation during workshops, from primary school to carpentry workshops and from offices to spaces for conferences and exhibitions. The facades were restored to their old form, while at the interior the idea was to allow the public to read the passing of the time by keeping all wall finishings specific to the functions of the mansion and by restoring the old floor plans. To enhance the understanding of the space, first and second floors were withdrawn from the front wall contour, in order to create a "box", enclosed with glass walls that allow light in. The predominant color is white, to contrast with the color of the existing old elements, just like an exhibition object, on display on a white background.
